Hmmm

I haven't been a very good blogger really. The winter set in and I think I began to hibernate. We have had a challenging winter. Lots and lots of snow and the wind, holy schmoley, it's been fierce.
I have been a nervous chicken mama. I am amazed at how the girls have made it through the cold. They were not big fans of the snow and every time we had a decent melt and grass and dirt appeared they ran around the yard kicking up their heels and had a blast.

It's been a year since we first got the chooks. We started with Teeny, Lola, Ruby and Millie. Lola turned out to be a rooster and went back to the farm to be paired with a Buff Orpington hen and re-homed as a breeding pair. We then got Millie and Sally and finally Gertrude in September. Ruby made it through her strange illness and although not 100% gets around fine, eats well and has fun in the yard. She starting laying again too so I'm am not worried. All seven birds have laid all through the winter and weathered it well.
Roll on spring and new garden plans.

Endlessly optimistic

Alls quiet for now.

Not much going on in the garden. The weather has been mild but I think the temperatures are finall going to start dropping to where they really should be this week. Thanksgiving was quiet and fun, it was great to have food on the table that grew in the vegi garden this year although rather amuzingly we ran out of eggs and I had to B U Y some AGHHHHH!!!  The girls have been molting and also with the shorter days have been laying less so with all the baking before turkey day, I ran out!
My big news is my new 'baby' The Great Rhody Yarn Crawl.  I roped in my good friends Chrys and Bernadette to be equally as responsible.. um.. I mean help, and it has taken on a life of its own. Slater Mill in pawtucket are on board as well as every yarn store in Rhode Island. Stitch and Pitch are in as well as Berroco and there are lots of other sponsors in the pipe line. I cant wait.
This is Chrys's description of the event.

What is a yarn crawl anyway?
A yarn crawl is an organized event that features your local yarn stores.
Organizers of a yarn crawl do all the work. We find the sponsorship for raffles and we contact the yarn stores to find out what stores will participating. We provide the structure that turns browsing at a yarn store into a fun event.
How do you participate?
There is not cost for participating in a yarn crawl. You visit the yarn stores participating in your area (during their businesss hours) on the dates we have scheduled the yarn crawl. That’s it!
Generally yarn stores will have special sales and promotions during this time. We are still in the planning process, but we fully expect to find sponsors to provide some items for a raffle at each location. For each store you visit, you will receive a raffle ticket for the store raffle and a raffle ticket for the BIG prize to be drawn at the Culmination Ceremony on April 17, 2011.

Im only workin' for the (Rhinebeck) weekend

I had a hat panic on friday. Its Rhinebeck next week and I was looking at my hats. I am not kind to my hats, this is New England and the weather doesn't allow for that.
I wanted a new hat.
Its friday.
I just got my second Through The Loops sock clue.
What is a girl to do?
Why, hurry off to Ravelry thats what.

I chose Neep Heid by Kate Davis (whos blog I follow) printed off the pattern, hit my stash ( lets not discuss that) and figured out a colour scheme that would work.
There were some changes in the way the pattern runs in the lovely original, and some changes due to my inept ability to count stitches, but I think it turned out really well. I've renamed it Bleeding hearts because in the new colourway thats what it reminds me of.

I completed the second clue on the TTL mystery Kal... again, just lovely.

I received my Rhinebeck bingo card by email this morning. If you don't know what that is check here .Thanks Stitchy Mcyarnpants  for organizing this.

This time next week I'll be home recovering from my Rhinebeck hangover. Thats sad.

The Quiet Man

One of the best movies ever made. EVER.

The Secret Of Kells

Jake was home sick on Thursday so we hit netflix. If you get the opportunity you should watch The Secret of Kells. It is a great story and really beautifull.

A fabu afternoon

This afternoon I went to Slater Mill in Pawtucket RI with two of the other Knitaholics girls to the Spin/knit/weave/Quilt celebration. Lots of folks were there , well, um Spinning, weaving, knitting and quilting. I hug out with the RI Spinners Guild ( of which I am a member) and was coached very gently by my good friend Linda over my spinning 'hump' and guess what? here is my first spun yarn! Yehooo...It needs to be plyed but I am thrilled.

Anyone that knows me knows I never ever win anything in raffles, I figure the money is going to a good cause and buy tickets anyway. I purchased tickets in the raffle today and I won, not only once but twice. I couldnt believe it. I got a Namaste wallet and a pro chem sock painting kit and dye sampler, and to think  I nearly didnt go! Thanks Melissa, Chrys, Linda L, Bernadette and the Westcotts for a really fun afternoon. : )
